| Abbi's feelings for Tre, and her nips, make a surprise appearance. |
Well, first off, I'm living for the pun in the title. Second of all, I feel so bad. This week had fabulous guest stars and I forgot to mention that last weeks episode had mf yoga Jones in it. YOGA JONES. As the fortune teller. I'm sorry yoga Jones.
So, this week we find Abbi and Ilana both at new jobs, both a little at odds with who they've become and both putting that to rights. Ilana begins a job as a bitchy waitress with RUPAUL. A good enough reason to apply for said job by itself. But she decides it's not really her thang and she reverts to being nice to customers and lifting their spirits rather than the opposite. But this more or less takes a back seat to Abbi's story and the series farewell to Tre (apparently, I actually didn't really get that this was his farewell episode until they mentioned it in the bts). Either way, I loved it. Everything that is a throwback on the show is a favourite of mine; Shania Twain, the cleaners cupboard as an office, Abbi's butt, bazinga, and the list goes on. Abbi has to return to Solstice to pick up a package and bumps into Tre training the one and only Shania Twain. After convincing him to let her train Shania with him, Abbi and Tre's (actually very believable) chemistry begins to surface and they end up having sex in the cleaning cupboard...then the bathroom....then the sauna.....and then Tre breaks his dick. It's a whole saga.
Apart from this being a super funny goodbye to Tre, it felt like a sort of a rebirth for Abbi. I mean, I know Broad City doesn't really do particularly deep storytelling and character development. Yes, there are examples of both in the series, but its not The Wire or The Sopranos, is what I'm saying. It's its own thing. But Abbi's finally moved on from Solstice, she never wanted to work their anyway. She's working for Wanda Sykes, in an office. Definitely the most legit job either of the girls have ever had. But, as with the theme of this episode, she's not happy with the type of person she's becoming. She lied to quit her job at Solistice. She lied to get out of work to get her package. She lied repeatedly that she was training Shania Twain. Since this is almost the first episode of the new season, with last week being a flashback, I think it's nice to see both character's turning over new leaves. Getting new jobs, remembering to be good people and stop lying to get out of awkward situations.
There isn't too much to say about this episode as it was mainly a goodbye episode for Tre, but I had a few stray observations to sum up.
- Ilana's hair was perfection this week.
- They were volunteering at a family planning clinic in the opening. YASS
- I loved Abbi's self reference when the receptionist was explaining what a gym was.
- RuPaul, Shania and Wanda were all fabulous.
- Ilana's pussy hat.
Next week I wanna see Jamie or Bevers or at least one of the regulars, pls Broad City, pls.
